15 June - 6 July 2024
In the summer of 2014, I was 20 years old and arrived in Milan. I came to this dilapidated continent to shape myself into something that I wanted to become. In the beginning I was overwhelmed by my new surroundings, frightened of losing myself in the middle of it all. In the summer of 2024, I’m turning 30 and my journey through my twenties comes to its conclusion in Antwerp.
This exhibition unravels the personal stories I felt during my ten years in Europe. It’s a personal diary of survival in a foreign land, as well as my artistic, social and racial identities.
“No matter how long I live in a foreign land, there are things that are hard to change. When I was sick, it was rice porridge that I ate, or when i had no strength to muster up, it was rice that I ate. Watching myself revert to rice when I’m weakened, Is where I find solace.”
