Emily Kelly

Emily Kelly

Emily Kelly (°Belgium, 1997) is an Antwerp based artist. She graduated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where she studied Fine Arts Sculpture. The artist is active in the realms of sculpture and installation.

Kelly focusses on the intuitive investigation of flexible structures and the communication between them. By placing connection points, the artist attempts to speak about the various ways of transmitting information to and through different objects. She plays with the balance between flexibility, rigidity, fragility and density and how those can contradict themselves and become ambiguous, including the physical relationship objects have with gravity. Ambiguity speaks about the many states of being that cross the borders between interior and exterior, ephemeral and stable, natural and unnatural, porous and impervious, human and nonhuman, and knowing and not knowing. She tries to navigate in-between these borders to visualise the multitude of this ambiguity.
