Senne Roekens

Senne Roekens

Senne Roekens (1995) is an Antwerp-based artist who started his career at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where he studied sculpture.

His work is characterized by the formal language of classical sculpture, but infused with raw and everyday materials, that control the flow of his process and push him to work intuitively. This combination of classical sculpture and modern elements creates a heated clash from which curious, metamorphotic figures emerge.

The use of foam makes the work robust, raw and constantly evolving into new, monumental pieces that have a powerful impact on the viewer. Typical of his work is that his choice of materials allows him to recycle and use parts of this imposing work for new objects. In this sense the focus of the work is not the final product, he seeks the area of tension between a work in progress and a finished piece. His work continues to change and evolve and is way to an as yet undefined final resting state.
