Photography adds a filter, altering what is seen through both chemical and technological processes to create distorted, abstracted imagery. An imperfect copy, a window through which reality can be experienced. A record of its own transmission, leaving traces of noise behind.

From the background of media, a new image appears, forming out of the blur. A still life gets reinterpreted from imperfection. Through pictures of flowers taken from the background of television shows, a classical genre gets brought to contemporary times. This disposable item from the background of a set design, becomes the main subject. Captured again through the lens of the camera, it is lifted into a new picture.

Up close, the structure of the image shows itself; it is only from a distance that the picture becomes clear. The flowers, originally encountered as incidental elements in the background, require a similar position to be seen again. Their visibility depends on stepping back, returning them to the background, for the image to fully emerge. What first appears as noise resolves into a picture that can be reinterpreted, forming new constructions of meaning.
